Application Requirements

The following supporting documents are required when applying to UHSA School of Medicine:

• Non-refundable application fee of U.S. $100
• Official Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended (This is typically a lengthy process, so plan accordingly).
  • Foreign applications must be translated into English prior to being received by UHSA.
  • Transcripts should be sent to:

• 2 (two) 2×2 Passport size Photos
• Copy of Passport (if available)
• Three (3) official letters of recommendation from individuals who can evaluate past academic and/or professional achievements.
  • These letters must appear on original letterhead stationery and be sent directly from the individual giving the recommendation. Letters sent from the applicant will not be accepted.
• Personal Statement
  • The personal statement is your opportunity to give additional information about yourself to the Medical School.
  • You should state in no less than 400 words why you are interested in a medical career, when you first became aware of this interest and what your plans are for the future if you are accepted into the medical program.
  • Please also explain your personal experience within the field. It is suggested that you include: participation in voluntary work, experience in research projects, community work, and any other important information you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you.
  • Your application to the Medical School will not be evaluated without a Personal Statement.

Entrance Requirements

A Bachelor’s of Science degree or 90 undergraduate level credit hours are required for admission to UHSA School of Medicine. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is not required but preferred.

Coursework must include the following prerequisites prior to enrolling at UHSA:

If a student has not completed one or more of these prerequisite courses, it may be possible to acquire some of these credits concurrently while enrolled within the basic sciences program at UHSA. This will be decided on a case-per-case basis. In the event that this is feasible, the student will incur additional fees for these undergraduate courses and it may prolong the length of time that it takes to complete the curriculum.

Applicants planning to practice in Puerto Rico are required to have the following prerequisites in addition to those mentioned above:

* These credits may be in: Sociology, Political Sciences, Economics, Anthropology, Psychiatry etc.

Note: If you are contemplating licensure in a country outside of the US, Canada or UK, there may be additional undergraduate requirements beyond or different from those stated above. We therefore recommend that students verify with the licensing board of the country where they intend to practice medicine.

Note: UHSA employs a rolling admissions policy for accepting applications. However, the above deadlines are highly recommended to improve your chances of receiving a seat for the desired start date. Candidates applying to the School of Medicine are considered as long as seats are available. However, applications are automatically considered for the following semester in the event that seats are no longer available.
