Electives are designed to provide students with a maximum opportunity to enrich and diversify their medical education. As such, it is recommended that the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) medical students seek to also do electives at several hospitals besides the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) affiliated teaching hospitals. Electives allows for both broad sampling and in-depth involvement with subject of interest.

A current listing of clinical electives offered at medical schools throughout the United States and other countries are available at any medical school library.

Students are advised to contact these institutions directly either by phone or mail to obtain information regarding availability of specific electives. Some institutions may require a Dean's Letter of Good Standing prior to providing application or information regarding the availability of electives. In this instance a "Request for Letter of Good Standing" should be submitted to the Office of Registrations & Records. Examples of electives are: (1) Family Practice (2) Cardiology (3) Emergency Medicine (4) Anesthesiology (5) Orthopedic Surgery (6) Otolaryngology (7) Neurology (8) Radiology (9) Preventative Medicine/Infectious Disease (10) Electives in General Surgery.
