Admissions Requirements

The following documents are required for applying to UHSA School of Medicine:

•    A completed application ($100 non-refundable application fee)
•    Official Transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
•    2 (two) 2x2 Passport size Photos
•    Copy of Resume (When applying for Program B)
•    Copy of Passport (if available)
•    Three (3) Letters of Reference from individuals who can evaluate the applicant’s past academic and/or personal achievements

To be eligible for admission, applicants must earn at least 90 collegiate credit hours from accredited institutions. The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is not required.

The School of Medicine has no preference as to the major fields of undergraduate study; students should determine their fields of major study according to their personal interest. Most students have earned a BA or BS degree prior to enrolling in the School of Medicine. However, students who have not completed the baccalaureate degree but have demonstrated academic capability may apply.

Students must complete the following course credits prior to enrolling in UHSA:

General Biology or Zoology (with lab) 8 Credits
General Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry (with lab) 8 Credits
Organic Chemistry (with lab) 8 Credits

English

6 Credits

Physics 3 Credits
Mathematics 3 Credits

If the student has not completed one or more of these prerequisite courses, it may be possible to acquire some of these credits concurrently while enrolled within the basic sciences program at UHSA. This will be decided on a case-per-case basis. In the event that this is feasible, the student will incur additional fees for these undergraduate courses and it may prolong the length of time that it takes to complete the curriculum.

Note: If you are contemplating licensure in a country outside of the US, Canada or UK, there may be additional undergraduate requirements beyond or different from those stated above. For example, besides biology and chemistry requirements, licensure in Puerto Rico requires:

General Physics 8 Credits
English 12 Credits
Spanish 6 Credits

Behavioral & Social Sciences

12 Credits

Electives 28 Credits

We therefore recommend that students verify with the licensing board of the country where they intend to practice medicine.

Note:  The Admissions Committee may require that the applicant be scheduled for an interview when credentials and other requirements have been completed.
