Student Scholarly Achievement: UHSA Student William Whitley Co-Authors Published Review Article on Pulmonary Hypertension

The University of Health Sciences Antigua is pleased to recognize a recent scholarly achievement by UHSA student William N. J. Whitley, who has co-authored a published review article titled “Epigenetic Drivers of Pulmonary Hypertension: Environment Meets Genome.”

The article was published in Cureus on February 25, 2026. It examines the role of epigenetic changes in pulmonary hypertension, a progressive condition in which the pulmonary arteries thicken and narrow, raising pulmonary vascular resistance and eventually placing strain on the right side of the heart.

The review discusses how genetic, environmental, inflammatory, and metabolic factors may contribute to the development and progression of pulmonary hypertension. It also highlights the growing importance of understanding how environmental exposures and biological mechanisms interact in complex disease processes.

This accomplishment reflects the value of scholarly engagement during medical education and demonstrates how focused academic work can contribute to the broader medical literature. UHSA is proud to recognize William’s dedication to research, academic growth, and scientific inquiry.

We congratulate William N. J. Whitley on this meaningful achievement and encourage our students to continue pursuing opportunities in scholarship, research, and academic excellence throughout their medical education.
