Antigua (pronounced An-tee’ga) and Barbuda are part of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. We are proud to say that Antigua is one of the safest and most developed islands in the region. With direct flights from the United States, Canada, and UK, the island gives students the opportunity to experience the Caribbean while having the convenience of traveling to/from home.
CLIMATE
Temperatures generally range from the mid-seventies in the winter to the mid-eighties in the summer. Annual rainfall averages only 45 inches, making it the sunniest of the Eastern Caribbean Islands, and the northeast trade winds are nearly constant, flagging only in September. Low humidity year-round.
CURRENCY
The currency in Antigua is Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$). The exchange rate is $2.7169 EC = $1 US. That sounds great until you find out that a Coke costs $3.50 EC. Most everything is more expensive here, especially if you are stuck near school. All businesses will accept US currency. None will accept US personal checks.
Most businesses take VISA and MasterCard. American Express travelers checks are also accepted almost everywhere.
