Scholarships

Scholarships are a type of financial aid that does not need to be repaid. They are a great way to pay for your education and may reduce the need for student loans. If you are a new student, you will be considered for scholarships at the time of admission. To apply for scholarships, you must indicate your interest during the application process and complete the below scholarship application after your acceptance to UHSA.

Healthcare Professionals Scholarship

Awarded to qualified applicants who have a professional background in a health care profession and are now ready to expand on their knowledge.

Award Amount

$2,000 one-time awarded in term 1

Eligibility

Proof of current certification or license
Proof of full-time employment for at least six months in a recognized health profession including but not limited to: Nursing, EMT/Paramedic, Physician’s Assistant, Physical Therapist, Chiropractor, Pharmacist
Letter of recommendation from a relevant supervisor

Please note:

Scholarship candidates must be accepted as a student by UHSA before consideration
Scholarships may not be combined
Only new incoming students enrolling into their first term are eligible
Scholarship cannot be regained once lost

Dr. Yele Akande Scholarship for International Medical Students

Awarded to eligible international medical students, the Dr. Yele Akande Scholarship offers eligible incoming, first semester students a pathway to becoming licensed, practicing physicians.

Award Amount

Scholarship covering the cost of the 4-year education. For students receiving this scholarship, the cost of tuition is reduced to:

$5,837 Per Term for the Basic Sciences (Six Terms)
$5,837 Per Term Clinical Sciences (Four Terms)

This scholarship excludes the following fees:

Normal academic fees
Malpractice Insurance for the clinical sciences
Room and board and any education supplies

Eligibility

Applicant must be a citizen & resident of an African, Caricom, EU, or South Asian Country
Proof of residency (for example, National ID, Driver’s license, or Recent utility bill)
A copy of your passport
One page essay stating why you should be considered for the scholarship
Must maintain good academic standing
Applicants who have taken college-level coursework in the United States or Canada are ineligible
