Students complete two years of Basic Sciences in Antigua followed by two years of clinical training in affiliated teaching hospitals across the United States, United Kingdom, Puerto Rico, and other international sites. The program is designed to prepare students for international licensing examinations including the USMLE, PLAB, and MCCQE, supporting pathways to residency and practice in multiple jurisdictions.4-Year MD Pathway: Antigua Years 1–2 → Clinical Training Years 3–4 → Residency
Program Overview
The UHSA Doctor of Medicine (MD) program follows a U.S.-modeled medical curriculum delivered entirely in English and designed for students entering with a bachelor’s degree.
Program structure

This structure allows students to build a strong scientific foundation while progressing into hands-on clinical training in diverse healthcare environments.
Basic Sciences - Year One and Two
The first two years of the UHSA MD program are completed on campus in Antigua and focus on the foundational medical sciences using a U.S.-modeled curriculum. During this time, students develop the scientific knowledge and early clinical exposure necessary for success on licensing examinations and in clinical training.

Clinical Sciences - Year Three and Four
After completing the Basic Sciences in Antigua, students progress to Years Three and Four for full-time clinical training in UHSA-affiliated teaching hospitals. During this period, students complete 78 weeks of core and elective clinical rotations under the supervision of attending physicians.
Core Rotations - 48 Weeks (Term I- II)
Students complete required core rotations in the following areas:
- Family Practice – 6 weeks
- Internal Medicine – 12 weeks
- Obstetrics and Gynecology – 6 weeks
- Pediatrics – 6 weeks
- Psychiatry – 6 weeks
- Surgery – 12 weeks
Elective Rotations - 30 Weeks (Term III- IV)
Students select electives based on their interests and career goals from a wide range of specialties.

Second Degree Options
UHSA students have the option to pursue an additional online degree through a partnership with Walden University while completing the MD program. This opportunity allows interested students to expand their academic credentials in areas such as Public Health, Health Sciences, Business, and Public Policy.
