How UHSA Students Finance Medical School
U.S. Students
UHSA works with several financing partners to help U.S. students cover tuition and related educational costs throughout the MD program. The options below are commonly used by our students during both the Basic and Clinical Sciences years.
Basic Sciences (Years 1–2)
Fortify Student Loan
- Designed to assist with tuition expenses
- No co-signer required in most cases
- Accepted students are prequalified
- Up to $6,000 per trimester*
The Fortify Loan Program is a private financing option created specifically for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Designed for medical students, it provides an accessible way to fund tuition with fixed terms and fast approvals.
Accepted students are prequalified, making the financing review process straightforward and student-centered.
*Any remaining balance may be covered through UHSA’s installment plan or additional financing options.
Clinical Sciences (Years 3-4)
Edly Student Loan
- Income-based repayment after graduation
- Low in-school payment requirements
- Prequalification with no impact to credit score
- Borrow between $2,500 and $40,000
- Forbearance options available if needed
The Edly Loan provides financing designed specifically for UHSA students in their Clinical Sciences years. Repayment options are structured to align with your income after graduation, allowing you to complete rotations without immediate financial pressure. Commonly used by UHSA students during clinical rotations.
Requirement: A UHSA transcript is required to finalize the loan application.
Contact financialaid@uhsa.edu.ag to learn more about your financing options. Edly applications should be submitted only after official acceptance to UHSA.
Walden Degree Financing
Through UHSA’s partnership with Walden University, students may pursue an additional degree alongside their medical education. Eligible students may qualify for U.S. Federal Student Aid for this program, and Walden provides UHSA students with a tuition reduction.
- Eligible students can apply for US Federal Student Aid to pay for educational expenses.
- Walden offers UHSA students a 25 percent reduction in tuition for their second degree.
- Students can select from a diverse range of degree programs across various fields, including Public Health and Health Sciences, Public Policy and Administration, Business and Management, and many others.
Sensible Borrowing: Plan Wisely, Borrow Responsibly
Students are encouraged to review their credit reports annually and borrow only what is necessary to complete their education. Free annual credit reports are available at AnnualCreditReport.com.
Important Information Regarding Prior Student Loans
UHSA does not receive or participate in Title IV Funding (anything requiring a FAFSA application). As such, previous student loans might not qualify for in-school deferment. Deferment forms usually require a federal school code. If you submit a deferment form to the Registrar, it will be processed without the school code and sent to your lender, but approval is not assured. If your deferment isn’t approved, you may be able to apply for forbearance instead.

Canadian Loan Programs
Federal and Provincial Student Loans for Canadian Students
UHSA is recognized for Canadian federal and provincial student loan funding. Most Canadian students are able to use their provincial student aid programs to help cover tuition and educational expenses while enrolled at UHSA.
When applying for funding, students must use UHSA’s designated school code: ZPAS.
Students must remain in satisfactory academic standing, as defined by their province, to maintain loan eligibility.

Canada Student Line of Credit
Many Canadian students supplement their provincial loans with a professional student line of credit from a Canadian bank.
These lines of credit are designed specifically for medical students and may provide access to $150,000 to $500,000 in funding, depending on the bank and your co-signer.
Most banks allow you to defer principal payments until after graduation and residency.
