Smart Financing for Medical Students

Financial assistance is available to eligible students and is designed to help bridge the gap between the cost of attendance and what students or their families can afford. Most students fund their education through a mix of personal savings, flexible payment plans, private loans, scholarships, and other financing options.

Scholarship Opportunities

We understand that students from Puerto Rico, CARICOM nations, and other regions may face challenges securing traditional student loans. UHSA is proud to offer a range of institutional scholarships to help make medical education more accessible.

Walden Degree Financing

Through UHSA’s partnership with Walden University, a US regionally accredited online university, students can pursue a second program of study that will complement their medical studies and give them a leg up as they start their medical careers.

Sensible Borrowing: Plan Wisely, Borrow Responsibly

Students should check their credit scores from all three major bureaus to ensure accuracy. You’re entitled to one free credit report per year from each bureau at AnnualCreditReport.com, the only federally authorized source. Reports may also be available through your bank, credit union, or credit card provider.

In-school deferment for previous student loans

UHSA does not receive or participate in Title IV Funding (anything requiring a FAFSA application). As such, previous student loans might not qualify for in-school deferment. Deferment forms usually require a federal school code. If you submit a deferment form to the Registrar, it will be processed without the school code and sent to your lender, but approval is not assured. If your deferment isn’t approved, you may be able to apply for forbearance instead.

Flexible Tuition Payment Options

Installment Plan for Term Tuition Payments

Payment plans are available to U.S. citizens to pay their tuition in a monthly repayment cycle arranged through TFC Credit Corporation, a third-party tuition financing company. The first payment includes one down payment followed by two or three monthly payments at 4% interest. No credit check is required.

Down payment requirements

Apply by completing the Tuition Payment Agreement.

Canadian Loan Programs

Federal and Provincial Student Loans for Canadian Students

The University of Health Sciences Antigua is recognized by the Canadian Ministry of Education, allowing most students to access Canadian federal loans, provincial loans, and federal grants. The Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP) provides financial assistance to both full-time and part-time post-secondary students through loans, grants, and repayment support. CSLP operates in partnership with most provinces and territories, though Quebec and the Northwest Territories manage their own financial aid programs.

While enrolled and maintaining satisfactory academic progress as defined by their respective province, students benefit from interest-subsidized loans funded by the Canadian government. Below are links to the financial aid resources for each province. When applying for funding, students must use UHSA’s designated school code [ZPAS].

Canada Student Line of Credit

To supplement the financing of their education, students usually apply for a professional line of credit available through banks in Canada. Credit lines can be approved for between $150,000 and $500,000, depending on the bank you choose to apply with. Please note all banks will require a co-signer and usually provide the option to defer principal payments until graduation to allow residency, etc.

Student Lines of Credit are available from the Royal Bank of Canada, Bank of Montreal, TD Canada Trust, and others. The following links may be helpful:
