Passport and Immigration Requirements

Citizens of the US, Canada, and the UK do not require a visa to enter Antigua & Barbuda; however, there are countries whose citizens are required to have a visa for entry. For a complete list of those countries, please visit the Antigua & Barbuda Department of Immigration.

Documents Required For Travel to Antigua

When traveling to Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU), you must bring the following documents.

  • Your valid passport.
  • Your final letter of acceptance from UHSA.
  • Your return ticket with a return date within 90 days of your arrival.
  • Your letter of Immigration (if a student visa is required).

Airlines require all visitors to Antigua to have a return ticket. Upon arrival, you may change the date of your return ticket. However, you are strongly advised not to travel on a one-way ticket, which can result in being denied entry into Antigua.

Immigration letter

Accepted students requiring a student visa and who have paid the seat deposit or secured financial aid will receive an immigration letter after completing the Student Travel Form. Please print out the immigration letter and carry it with you, along with your passport and acceptance letter, when you arrive at VC Bird International Airport in Antigua.

Required documentation when applying for a student visa

The Antigua & Barbuda Immigration office will endeavor to facilitate the e-Visa online application process of students who meet the requirements for entry. Please remember that the documents below must be submitted for processing visa applications.

  1. Immigration letter – Provided by UHSA.
  2. UHSA acceptance letter.
  3. Passport-sized photo.
  4. Scanned copy of the passport bio page.
  5. Proof of financial support.
  6. Physician’s Health Certificate.
  7. Yellow-Fever vaccination certificate.
  8. Birth Certificate.

Transit Visas

Before traveling to Antigua & Barbuda, check if you need a visa for the countries you’ll pass through during your journey, depending on your citizenship and itinerary. It’s important to take care of this early on so you can gather all required travel documents. If you need a transit visa, UHSA can provide supporting documentation upon receiving your deposit payment. Ensure sufficient time for visa processing when arranging your payment and travel plans.

Air Travel

Antigua’s V.C. Bird International Airport (ANU) is a central airport hub with flights arriving and departing daily.

African, Asian, and European Passengers

British Airways and Virgin Atlantic are the preferred airlines for students traveling from the United Kingdom, with flights arriving and departing frequently throughout the week from London Heathrow (LHR) and London Gatwick (LGW).

United States and Canadian Passengers

Students arriving from the US, Canada, and the Caribbean have frequent flights through:

Renting a Vehicle

There are car rental companies close to the UHSA campus. To rent a vehicle, students must already have a valid license from their home country. A temporary Antigua driver’s license, which can be obtained through the rental companies, is required to operate a motor vehicle.

Shipping to Antigua and Pre-Arrival

If students must ship items to Antigua, please note that international shipping laws apply concerning the importation of luxury items. Upon arrival, students will be required to pay a tax for any items shipped. Also, note that personal items displaying price tags may also be liable for the payment of taxes upon arrival.
