University of Health Sciences Antigua Celebrates Class of 2025 Graduation in San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan, Puerto Rico – June 7, 2025 – The University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) proudly celebrated its Class of 2025 graduation at a moving ceremony held at the DoubleTree by Hilton San Juan. Students, families, faculty, and distinguished guests gathered in support of this milestone achievement.
This graduation marked several meaningful firsts for the university community:
Rising Above the Pandemic: The ceremony honored students who began their MD journey at the height of the COVID‑19 pandemic in early 2020. Through changes in learning, clinic closures, and immense uncertainty, these graduates demonstrated resilience and determination, emerging today as newly minted physicians ready to care for patients worldwide.
Welcoming the First Cohort from the 8B‑UHSA Partnership: UHSA also celebrated its first graduates from the partnership with 8B Education Investments—a program launched in late 2022 to support displaced African medical students affected by the war in Ukraine. Through this collaboration, students received substantial tuition support and a pathway to continue their medical education—many now earning their MD from UHSA.
Dr. Manuel Flores, Provost and Executive Vice-President for Academic Affairs of UHSA, remarked: “Our Class of 2025 embodies perseverance and global solidarity. We are especially proud of those who continued their studies amidst the most uncertain times. Today, they join our global family of physicians, ready to bring compassion and service wherever they go.”
Highlights from the ceremony included:
Keynote address by Puerto Rico physician and UHSA Clinical Dean, Dr. Victor Gordo, emphasizing adaptability, service in underserved communities, and lifelong learning.
Special tribute to international graduates, acknowledging their unique journeys—from navigating changing public-health landscapes to forging new opportunities via the 8B initiative.
The Class of 2025 stands as a testament to perseverance and purpose. From their first day at UHSA during one of the most uncertain times in modern history, they have emerged not only as doctors but as leaders shaped by resilience, compassion, and an unshakable drive to serve. Today, we don’t just celebrate their graduation — we honor their extraordinary journey.
