Displaced Ukrainian-based Medical Students

UHSA is accommodating medical students displaced by the war in Ukraine. Applicants must be enrolled at a medical school in Ukraine to be considered a transfer student. To apply, applicants must upload to our online application, at minimum, a personal statement and transcripts so that completed courses can be evaluated. Transcripts must be in English or include a word-by-word certified translation done by a translating agency.

We understand the difficulty of obtaining official transcripts and other documents during this challenging period, so applications will be reviewed with unofficial copies until official records are available.

All Other Transfer Students

Applicants will be considered for transfer case-by-case only if they comply with all the criteria listed below. Conditions for transfer students include:

  1. Must meet all application and entry requirements.
  2. The prior medical school must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  3. Transfer credits must be for courses passed while enrolled at the applicant’s previous medical school.
  4. A letter of good standing from the Dean of your prior medical school.
  5. USMLE results for all attempts made (if applicable).

Transfer credits may only be transferred from one medical school, per ECFMG guidelines.

Transferring into the Basic Sciences

Applicants wishing to transfer must present valid and compelling reasons for transferring and be in good academic standing at their current school. The Admissions Committee will determine which credits can be transferred.

Transferring into the Clinical Sciences

Third-year applicants may be eligible to begin Clinical Sciences training after approval and acceptance of their Basic Sciences credits by UHSA. Applicants who have not completed the USMLE Step 1 must complete the Integrated Review of the Basic Sciences. Applicants who present proof of passing the USMLE Step 1 may proceed to the Clinical Sciences.

Fourth-year applicants (completing elective clerkships) are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are only considered in special circumstances (e.g., natural disasters or closure of medical school).

Advanced Standing

Applicants who have undertaken studies in health sciences (osteopaths, podiatrists, dentists, physician assistants, nurses, etc.) are not eligible for advanced standing and are advised to enroll in the Basic Sciences program.
