Transferring to UHSA

UHSA considers transfer applicants who are currently enrolled in similarly structured M.D. programs. Transfer credits from other schools are not guaranteed.

Acceptance of transfer credits are subject to the receiving institution’s requirements and is determined by the admissions committee. If transferred credits do not comply with all the criteria listed below, the applicant will not meet the requirements to be registered by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) for examination or the requirements to be certified. Conditions for transfer students include:

  1. Applicants must meet all application and entry requirements.
  2. Prior medical school must be listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  3. Transfer credits must be for courses that were passed while enrolled at the applicant’s prior medical school.
  4. A letter of good standing from the Dean of your prior medical school.
  5. USMLE results for all attempts made (if applicable).

Transfer credits may only be transferred from one medical school to UHSA, per ECFMG guidelines.

Transferring into the Basic Sciences

Applicants wishing to transfer must present valid and compelling reasons for transferring and be in good academic standing at their current school. The Admissions Committee will determine which previously earned credits can be transferred. Courses qualified for transfer credit must have been completed within seven (7) years of the expected graduation date at UHSA.

Transferring into the Clinical Sciences

Third-year students may be eligible to begin Clinical Sciences training after approval and acceptance of the Basic Sciences credits by UHSA. Students who have not completed the USMLE Step 1 must complete the Integrated Review of the Basic Sciences. Students who present proof of passing the USMLE Step 1 may proceed to the Clinical Sciences.

Fourth-year medical students (completing elective clerkships) are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are only considered in special circumstances (e.g., natural disasters or closure of medical school).

Applicants who have undertaken studies in health sciences (osteopaths, podiatrists, dentists, physician assistants, nursing) are not eligible for advanced standing and are advised to enroll in the Basic Sciences program.
